About the Role
Stonetree Law is seeking an entrepreneurial lawyer with at least two years of post-call experience who wants to build and lead a practice within a growing firm.
This is not a conventional salaried associate position with guaranteed files. It is intended for a lawyer who wants greater control over their clients, schedule, practice direction and earning potential without assuming the full administrative burden of establishing a solo firm.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
> Developing and growing a sustainable practice;
> Managing client matters independently from intake through completion;
> Building referral relationships and generating new work;
> Maintaining professional standards for file management, billing and collections;
> Participating in firm marketing and business-development initiatives;
> Collaborating with other Stonetree lawyers on appropriate matters; and
> Contributing to the firm’s systems, culture and continued growth.
Firm-generated work and internal referrals may be available but are not guaranteed.
The position offers flexible hybrid work. Lawyers may work remotely where appropriate, subject to client needs, court obligations, confidentiality and information-security requirements, and any requirement to attend in person.
Requirements
Be an active member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta;
Have at least 4 years of post-call legal experience;
Be capable of managing files with limited day-to-day supervision;
Demonstrate sound professional judgment, integrity and reliable file management;
Have strong written and oral communication skills;
Be comfortable with business development, networking and client relationship management;
Be willing to take responsibility for billing, collections and practice growth;
Be able to work independently while remaining collaborative and accountable to the firm; and
Be comfortable using modern legal technology and standardized firm systems.
